Deadly Train Collision In Egypt’s Nile Delta Leaves 3 Dead, Over 40 Injured

A tragic train collision occurred in Egypt’s Nile Delta on Saturday, claiming the lives of three people, including two children, and leaving over 40 others injured, according to authorities. The crash took place in the city of Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province.

The Egyptian railway system, long criticized for its aging infrastructure and poor management, has seen numerous incidents in recent years. Despite government efforts to modernize the system, accidents persist. In 2018, President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi announced that an estimated 250 billion Egyptian pounds (approximately $8.13 billion) would be required to effectively overhaul the country’s railway network.

Eyewitness footage from the scene depicted the aftermath of the collision, with a train car severely damaged by the impact. Local residents rushed to assist, pulling the injured passengers through shattered windows.

Just last month, another tragic incident occurred when a train collided with a truck on a crossing in Alexandria, killing two people.
