First Lady Commends Sudhir Ruparelia for Spearheading State-of-the-Art Convention Centre for NAM and G77 Summits

Kampala, January 18, 2024 – The First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports, has praised City Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia for his remarkable efforts in expeditiously constructing the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo. This cutting-edge facility is currently playing host to the ongoing Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77+China Heads of State and Government Summits.

During her inspection of the contemporary Convention Centre, a joint venture between the government and the Ruparelia Group, the First Lady expressed her gratitude, saying, “I would like to express my appreciation to the Ruparelia Group for their commendable work in preparing the Convention Centre for these Summits. Their attention to detail and level of preparedness is truly praiseworthy.”

She emphasized the significance of maintaining high standards, urging continuous checks on all amenities to ensure their excellent working condition not only during the Summits but also in the future. The First Lady’s visit reaffirmed the commitment to hosting successful international events, showcasing Uganda’s best, and ensuring a warm and hospitable experience for every guest.

The Speke Resort Convention Centre, a first-of-its-kind in Uganda and East Africa, boasts a multipurpose hall, 12 high-end conference/breakaway meeting rooms, and a floating restaurant capable of hosting over 900 guests, offering an extraordinary view of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake.

The Convention Centre, described as an architectural marvel, has garnered attention for its completion ahead of schedule and readiness to host historical events like the NAM and G77 Summits. The facility stands as the largest meetings, conferences, and events structure in Uganda, covering an impressive 56,000 square meters.

Speke Resort Convention Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, designed by a renowned multinational architecture firm, provide a perfect blend of elegance and functionality. The Convention Centre caters to a diverse range of events, offering flexible spaces that can be customized for unique requirements.
