Reverend Father Lawrence Yawe Mudduse, a Catholic priest associated with Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, has sadly lost his life in a car collision on the Kampala-Hoima Road in Kyankwanzi District.

The tragic incident occurred at Kabagaya Village in Butemba Sub County on a Sunday evening when Father Mudduse’s Suzuki car collided head-on with a commuter taxi.

Racheal Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson, shared that the collision happened around 07:30 pm. Father Mudduse, critically injured, was initially taken to Kiboga Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries during the transfer to Nsambya Hospital in Kampala later that night.

At the time of the accident, Reverend Father Mudduse was on his way to Lwebisiriza Catholic Parish in Kyankwanzi District, where he served as the parish priest.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Reverend Father Stephen Lusiba, the Kiyinda-Mityana Catholic parish priest, expressed their sorrow, stating, “We have lost a great preacher and researcher. He [the deceased] has been a resourceful person and always delivers humorous sermons punctuated with examples that make it easy for anyone to understand.”

It’s worth noting that in August 2019, Father Mudduse, along with six others, faced charges related to the murder of a 50-year-old landlord, Muhammad Kamada Kimbugwe. The victim was killed while distributing letters to tenants on his disputed one-square-mile piece of land in Minaana Village, Tamu Division, Mityana Municipality. Father Mudduse, accused of financing the assailants responsible for the murder, spent 18 days in Luzira Prison before being granted bail.

Before taking up his role at Lwebisiriza Catholic Parish, Father Mudduse had served in Mubende and worked as a tutor at St. Paul’s National Major Seminary – Kinyamasika in Fort Portal for an extended period.
