Nyombi Thembo Appointed as New UCC Boss
Nyombi Thembo assumes the role, succeeding Irene Kaggwa, who has served in an acting capacity for the past two years

Former ICT Minister Nyombi Thembo has been appointed Executive Director (ED) of the Uganda Communications Commission, effective December 1, 2023. Nyombi Thembo assumes the role, succeeding Irene Kaggwa, who has served in an acting capacity for the past two years.
George William Nyombi Thembo has held the position of Director for the Rural Development Communication Fund (RCDF) at the Uganda Communications Commission since January 2017. In addition to this role, he has been acting as the Director of Industry Affairs and Content Development.
In his previous roles, Nyombi worked as an analyst, planning officer, and senior planning officer for the Uganda Railways Corporation in the 1990s. He also served as a Project Manager for the Transport Rehabilitation Project (Railway Component) at Kampala City Council from 1995 to 2001, at which point he entered politics.
Nyombi was elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 2001 as the MP for Kassanda County South in Mubende District, holding the position for over a decade (2001-2015). He served as the State Minister for Primary Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports (2001-2009), State Minister for Luweero Triangle in the Office of the Prime Minister (2009-2011), and also as the State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (2011-2015).
Nyombi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University and a Master of Science in Development Economics from Uganda Martyrs University (UMU). Additionally, he possesses a diploma in project planning and management from Bradford University, UK, and a post-graduate diploma in financial management from UMU.
Nyombi was born on July 31, 1964, in Kassanda, Singo County, present-day Mubende District.
