Museveni Responds to Esther Kisaakye’s Resignation from the Supreme Court of Uganda
The president advised that the tribunal should investigate the matter, and only then would the way forward become clear.

On July 18, 2023, Justice Esther Kitimbo Kisaakye of the Supreme Court of Uganda formally submitted her resignation to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In response, the president acknowledged her decision, stating that he cannot obstruct her wish to retire early. President Museveni emphasized that Kisaakye’s resignation would preempt any actions by the Judicial Service Commission of Inquiry or the tribunal.

He pointed out that Kisaakye had made strong allegations against the Chief Justice, noting that these statements could be either accurate or false. The president advised that the tribunal should investigate the matter, and only then would the way forward become clear.
