Uganda Prisons have dispatched a team of inspectors from Prisons Headquarters to Kibuku Prison to establish the facts behind the prison break, where unknown persons stole guns and ammunition.

It is alleged that on the 16th of November 2023 at 8 PM, unknown individuals broke into Kibuku Uganda Prisons Armory in Mbale and stole 4 AK-47 guns and 116 rounds of ammunition.

A mounted joint security operation led to the recovery of the stolen weapons the next day. Two suspects were also apprehended and detained.

Uganda Prisons spokesperson, SCP Frank Mayanja Baine, commended the sister forces and the public for their vigilance that led to the success of the joint operation.

He stated that the Uganda Prisons Service is committed to fulfilling its mandate and will do everything possible to avoid the re-occurrence of such a scenario.
